Windows 7, Skype and McAfee

Today I tried reinstalling McAfee anti virus to be told that Windows 7 isn't supported by it, that was a quick and easy trial.

Additonally I ran into another incompatibility, Skype starts up quite happily and then quits after a random time period. As always no logs, or event entries :P

UPDATE 9th Jan 2009

I just tried Mcafee on the Beta build of Windows 7, and unsurprisingly it didn't work either :)

Use Skype 4.0.0.169 Beta, works fine :)

Excellent, thanks! I've now installed the Beta and it's a lot happier :)

So roll on version 4.0 of Skype!

Did you have any success with McAfee on Windows 7, as I am having the same problem.

Hi Adam,

At this time McAfee doesn't recognise Windows 7 as a valid version. This is true for both it Beta products and production products.

I'm currently using the free version of AVG which is a very good. I'd recommend if you can to using that one instead, here's the link: http://free.avg.com/

Cheers,
J

mcafee and norton are the worst antivirus ever made, i second avg its light (norton is not), its fast, free and one of the best virus scanners ever

I second Ahmed, I hate power-hungry McAfee and Norton. Use either AVG or Avast. The Avast real-time scanner slows down your computer ever so slightly more than AVG, but it isn't noticeable unless you time it. Plus, there are no ads pressuring you into buying the pro version. Avast manual scans run faster than AVG too.

Avast + Windows 7 = speed!
